Greece, China Draw at Gods of War XIII
Greek promotion Gods of War held its latest event this past Friday in Athens.
Gods of War XIII featured a challenge between Chinese fighters representing the Glory of Heroes organization and Greek counterparts. Two title bouts were also featured in the Fite TV broadcast.
In the six televised bouts between China and Greece, each side collected three wins.
-77 kg: Emmanouel Diakam (Democratic Republic of Congo) def. Apostolos Galanis (Greece)-Decision (ISKA National Title)
The opening bout pitted Congo’s Diakam (26-7, 8 KOs) against Greece’s Galanis (17-6, 7 KOs).
The taller Diakam looked to keep the fight at distance while Galanis pressed. Diakam caught Galanis coming in at times, and landed the better blows to earn the decision.
-75 kg: Giannis Tsagris (Greece) def. Ricky Garcia (Spain)-KO Round 2 (WKU European Title)
Tsagris (11-2, 3 KOs) scored a big knockout in the second fight.
Garcia (10-5, 0 KOs) spinned and moved forward and was caught with a big right hand that knocked him on his back. The fight was waved off without a count.
-61 kg: Olsjian Mesoutaj (Greece) def. 允奇Yun Qi (China)-Decision
The first Greece-China contest was an entertaining battle with good back-and-forth action. Both fighters did well, but the decision was given to Mesoutaj (23-3, 9 KOs). Yun (33-19, 10 KOs) seemed to score the better points but came up short on the scorecards.
-66,5 kg: Stefanos Mpagiatsakos (Greece) def. Shishuai (China)-KO Round 3 (Left Hook Body Shot)
Working behind a high guard, Mpagiatsakos (23-3, 9 KOs) fought effectively off the front and back foot, mixing his shots nicely. By late in round two, he was pressing the less-experienced Shishuai (9-3, O KOs).
Mpagiatsakos ended the bout a round later in devastating fashion. With Shishuai near the ropes, the Greek threw a combination with a left-hook downstairs that landed cleanly. Shishuai squatted to the canvas and couldn’t beat the count giving the Greek team its second win in as many matches.
-68 kg: 郭梦飞Guo Mengfei (China) def. Kostantinos Mantzokas (Greece)-Decision
Youngsters Mantzokas (18 years) and Mengfei (20 years old) engaged in a hard-fought battle. Southpaw Guo (9-6, 1 KO) was the aggressor and displayed a good work rate in earning the decision over Mantzokas (10-3, 3 KOs).
-70 kg: 廖鑫Liao Xin (China) def. Panagiotis Petritsis (Greece)
Liao (8-2, 2 KOs) evened the teams at 2-2 with a decision win against Petritis (14-2, 6 KOs).
-73 kg: Kostas Fasomitakis (Greece) def. 韩浩杰Han Haojie (China)-Decision
The 21-year-old Han was the aggressor, moving forward and ripping punches. Fasomitakis (19-2, 6 KOs) knocked down the Chinese fighter (7-3, 2 KOs) with a high kick in the second round, and that was likely the difference on the scorecards.
-88 kg: 刘策Liu Ce (China) def. Giorgos Mpatzakas (Greece)-KO Round 2 (Left Punch)
The broadcast’s finale was between Liu (9-4, 3 KOs) and Mpatzakas (12-4, 6 KOs).
The Chinese fighter was too big and strong for Mpatzakas, and showed some nice punch combinations. He knocked the Greek fighter down with a left punch as Mpatzakas moved forward in round two.
It looked like Mpatzakas’s left leg bended while he went down, and he tried to get up but couldn't.Liu prevailed by knockout victory and Mpatzakas was helped to his feet.
